Gail Dempsey, PhD
Vice President, Formulations and Manufacturing Technologies
A chemical engineer with expertise in product and process development, Dr. Gail Dempsey is Vice President of Formulations and Manufacturing Technologies at Piedmont Animal Health. Skilled in product development, process optimization, and technology transfer, Dempsey coordinates work with cross-functional teams of internal departments and external partners to solve technical challenges and meet production goals. As laboratory lead, Dempsey works with the Piedmont team to develop new master formulas and optimize process parameters for the manufacture of novel sterile injectables, tablets, soft chewable tablets, and topical solutions.
Prior to joining Piedmont Animal Health, Dempsey served as Manager of Third-Party Manufacturing at Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (now known as Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health), where she managed over 20 products manufactured at eight companies. In this role, she directed aspects of the largest technology transfer in animal health to date, and was responsible for production planning and inventory management from the purchase of raw materials to the release of finished products. As Pharmaceutical Development Scientist at IDEXX Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Dempsey scaled-up new product production, manufactured pre-clinical materials, and conducted studies to optimize production of approved commercial products.
Dempsey earned a Ph.D. and an M.E. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland.
